The Law Commission of India in its 42nd report on the Indian Penal Code, 1860,3 under the chairmanship of Sh. K.V.K Sundaram suggested certain amendments to the IPC. In Chapter 20 of this report (pgs. 323-327), it suggested that exemption of the wife from punishment under the section should be removed.
